The Masters!

Welcome to the Masters!!

This past weekend Ben and I flew down to GA, met my parents in Atlanta so Addison could spend the weekend with them and then Ben and I drove to Augusta for an amazing two days at the Masters. It was wonderful! We had tickets for Saturday and Sunday and spent all day on the course. On Saturday, we walked the course. We went through the first 9 holes before taking a break for lunch (and pumping). Phil Mickelson started at 12:40 and proceeded to hit a 300+ yard drive into the middle of the adjacent 9th fairway. As Phil was lining up his second shot he was faced with 2 large magnolia trees, a greenside bunker, and only a matter of 15 feet of green to work with. And then, as if it were commonplace, Phil hit a long iron, over the trees, over my head, the bunker and landed no more than 10 feet from the pin. It was clear, these guys are good and I will never be able to do that (sadly, Phil missed the put for birdie). After lunch, we started at Hole 18 and went backwards. When we arrived at Amen Corner (the end of Hole 11 and Hole 12), we sat and watched all the leaders come through. After the leaders finished up Hole 12, we made our way up to the 18th Hole to watch them come through. It was a beautiful day and the course is absolutely amazing.

On Sunday, we arrived early to place our chairs at the 18th Hole. We watched the beginning groups go through the 1st Hole before moving over to the stands at the 15th and 16th Hole where we spent the majority of the day. We met the Canadians sitting behind us and the Englishmen sitting beside and in front of us. It was another beautiful day and HOT! We saw Rory McElroy's (Ireland) double bogey post on the Leader's Board right before Tiger Woods shot on the 15th. Tiger hit a spectacular second shot leaving an eagle putt of no more than 12 feet to go to -11 for the lead. Sadly, he missed the eagle putt, but was able to bring himself even with the other leaders at -10. We were also able to witness at Holes 15 and 16, two of Schwartzel's (South Africa) remarkable four consecutive birdies to win the Masters. We hustled back to the 18th Hole in time to see the end with Schwartzel.

I really enjoyed spending time with Ben as well. I started playing golf - well, trying to - after we met because it was something I wanted us to be able to enjoy together. Augusta National was such a beautiful course! We were amazed at how low priced the food and beverages were. They make up for it in the prices for passes and the pro shop, but the food is very reasonable and the parking is free! Everything runs so smoothly.

Addison seemed to have a wonderful time with Gammie and Poppy in AL. Thank you, again, mom and dad for keeping her for us!! Here is one picture of her on the plane heading to Atlanta - so precious!
